Simple Fall-Themed Music Activities Perfect For Kids

Hello, everyone! It’s that time of year again – The air is getting crisper, the leaves are changing colors, and pumpkin spice everything is back in season. While it may still be August, we’re already feeling the fall vibes, and what better way to celebrate than with some fun, fall-themed music activities for kids?

At Safa Music, we believe that learning music should be enjoyable and engaging, and fall-themed activities are a great way to incorporate the season into your child’s music education. Here are some simple, yet effective, fall-themed music activities that you can do with your kids:

  • Draw a large tree on a piece of paper or use butcher paper to create a tree.
  • Cut out leaves from construction paper.
  • Scatter the leaves on the floor.
  • Have your child pick up a leaf and imitate the sound of leaves falling to the ground using body percussion sounds like clapping, snapping, or rubbing palms together.
  • Write down the sounds on the leaves.
  • Ask your child to say the words and sounds while pretending to be a leaf.

So-Mi-La Leaves

  • Draw four leaves and point to them as your child pats the beat on their knees.
  • Brainstorm fall-related words and write them down.
  • Create rhythms for each word.
  • Point to the leaves as you tap the rhythms.
  • Have your child create 4-beat rhythm patterns using the “key.”
  • Play the beat while your child taps the rhythms.
  • Echo play the rhythms.
  • Play the entire phrase rhythmically.

SOLFÈGE PUMPKINS

This activity is perfect for reviewing note names and note placement.

  • Draw or print out staff lines.
  • Attach magnets or sticky tack to the back of the pumpkins.
  • Take turns placing them where they belong on the staff.
  • Print out or make pumpkins from construction paper.

DIY Instruments

  • Draw or print out mini music staffs.
  • Distribute mini pumpkin candies and the music staffs to your child.
